Those Who Love One Another for Allah’s Sake

The Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Allah has said, ‘For those who love each other for the sake of My glory, they will be given thrones of light; and the prophets and martyrs will be envious of them.’”

[Sunan At-Tirmidhi no: 2390 - Classed as Sahih by Shaykh al-Albaani]

This Hadith tells us that Allah will grant an exalted position to such people who love one another for His sake.

“They will be envied by the Prophets and martyrs” does not mean that they will be granted a place higher than the Prophets (or even the martyrs) because the highest position will be granted to the Prophets, as they are the best of Allah’s creation. These words simply draw our attention to the superiority and the exalted position those who love one another for Allah’s sake will have on the Day of Resurrection.

As we discussed in the previous hadith, these are people who “love one another” meaning they shared a kind of love whereby each loved the other in a genuine sense, not just to show off.

“And [they] meet and part on that basis” meaning, this is an ongoing love based on religion, which they do not cut off for any worldly reason, whether they meet in reality or not, until death comes between them.

So these are people who loved one another not for worldly benefit, they both love Allah, they both fear Allah and they both know that love and hate is only for the sake of Allah and this is the reason why they meet. They come together and leave each other after doing good deeds.

In another Hadith found in Sahih Muslim, the Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith:

  1. The one to whom Allah and His Messenger become dearer than anything else,
  2. [He] who Loves a person and he loves him only for Allah’s sake,
  3. [He] who hates to revert to disbelief as hates to be thrown into the fire.

We ask Allah to make us love one another purely and sincerely for His sake alone and to give us this superior status on the Day of Judgement! Ameen!

And Allah knows Best!
