Honouring one’s Parents
Honouring one’s parents is one of the best acts of obedience and means of drawing closer to Allah. It is an important right that they are given in Islam, so much so that Allah has mentioned obedience to parents alongside obedience to Him, and their rights alongside His rights, in more than one place in His Book (interpretation of the meaning):
“And your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And that you be dutiful to your parents” [al-Isra 17:23]
This is indicative of the importance of honouring one’s parents and treating them well.
Honouring one’s parents means obeying them, respecting them, praying for them, lowering one’s voice in their presence, smiling at them, not showing displeasure towards them, striving to serve them, fulfilling their wishes and not being stubborn towards them.
This is why hadithaday.org has compiled a list of 25 ahadith from HaD-66 to HaD-90, in Honour to our Parents and we have called this series “Honouring ones Parents” and we sincerely hope that it will benefit all those who read it and remind them about the rights of their parents, and Allah is the source of strength.
