The First to be Clothed on the Day of Resurrection
The Messenger (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “The first one to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection will be the Prophet Ibrahim (alaihi assalam), who will be clothed in a garment from Paradise. A chair will be brought and placed to the right of the Throne, and then I will be brought and clothed in a garment from Paradise, the like of which has never been seen.”
[Al-Baihaqi fi Fathil Baari 11/384]
The Scholars (may Allah have mercy upon them) have mentioned a few reasons as to why the Prophet Ibrahim (alaihi assalam) will be given priority over others in regards to being the first one clothed on the Day of Resurrection.
Some scholars said that there was none among the earlier and later generations who feared Allah more that he did. So he will be clothed so as to reassure him and give him peace of mind.
While other Scholars said – as stated in a hadith – that he was the first person to wear trousers when he prayed, as an extra covering and to be more modest.
But the strongest explanation (and Allah knows best) is that those who threw him into the fire removed his clothes in front of those present, as is done with one who is to be killed, thus he will be rewarded by being the first one to be clothed on the Day of Resurrection, to be witnessed by all people.
And Allah knows best!
