Honoring Your Guest
The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “He who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him show hospitality to his guest; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him maintain good relation with kins; and he who believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent.”
[Sahih Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
To honor your guest means to welcome him cheerfully, entertain him happily according to your capacity and have full regard of his needs and comfort.
As for one’s relatives, we are supposed to treat them nicely and to do your duty towards them.
In regards to the last part of the Hadith, “let him speak good or remain silent” implies that we should avoid senseless and irrelevant talk. We should try to pass most of our time in the remembrance of Allah, seeking His forgiveness and only saying that which is good when speaking to others, if we can’t say good words then we had better remain silent.
These three qualities are possessed by those people who truly believe in Allah and the Day of Reckoning.
In other words, those who lack these qualities betray only a weak and imperfect Faith.
And Allah knows best!
